Obituary of Jean T. Silverio
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Travers Silverio, 91, beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in the comfort of her home. She was born in New Britain to Howard and Helen (Heath) Travers and was a longtime New Britain resident until relocating to Niantic after the passing of her husband Rinaldo in 2003. Jean graduated from TCC in 1951 and taught at Smalley elementary school where she met the love of her life Reny. They married in 1954 and together raised four children. Once the children were in school Mom’s return to work brought her to a banking career with New Britain National Bank/Bank of America. However her most important priority was caring for her family and home which was always immaculate.
She was always available for helpful hints about cleaning and laundry which earned her the playful nicknames of “Mrs. Clean” and the “Stain Master”. She was an avid knitter and an extremely competitive duckpin bowler. She loved playing scrabble, doing jigsaw puzzles and daily crossword puzzles.
Jean is survived by her daughters Jean Marie Silverio, Amy Peters, and Ellen (Bruce)Whewell, her son James (Cathy) Silverio, and her ten grandchildren Matt, Greg, and Dan Silverio, and Kristen, Ben, Sam, Becca, Abby, Katie and Jack Whewell. She also leaves her sister and husband Nancy and Bob Skinner and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers especially Jodi and Yvonne who made it possible for her to remain in her home.
