Obituary of Barbara F. Detrick
Barbara (Ferguson) Detrick, 90, formerly of New Britain, died Wednesday (July 24, 2019) at home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Caufield) Ferguson, she lived there most of her life, moving to Cromwell 24 years ago. She was the beloved wife of the late William H. “Bill” Detrick.
She graduated from Central Connecticut State University (formerly known as Teacher’s College of Connecticut) where she met her husband Bill of 62 years and many lifelong friends. Mrs. Detrick was a primary teacher in the New Britain School System for many years, teaching at Benjamin Franklin and Gaffney Elementary Schools. Barbara enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. She was a longtime supporter of CCSU men’s and women’s basketball and was an avid Red Sox fan.
She enjoyed many winters in Highland Beach, Florida, traveling to Final Four basketball tournaments, and spending time with her family. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow, always there for the important events in their young lives.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Barbara Davis and her husband Stephen, her daughter Deborah Detrick and her son William Scott Detrick and his wife Candace, all of Wethersfield, and her six grandchildren, Patrick, Emily, and Catherine Davis, Emma, Grace and Sarah Detrick. She was predeceased by a sister, Sally Crowley and a brother, David Ferguson.
Funeral services will be held Monday (July 29, 2019) 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1755 Stanley St. New Britain. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Donations may be made to Middlesex Hospice 28 Crescent Street Middletown, CT 06457.
