Edward T. Kelly, 95, formerly of New Britain, passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Edward P. and Mary (Maloney) Kelly, he lived there most of his life until moving to Woodbury nine years ago to live with his daughter, Marguerite, and her husband, Fred Cogliati. He was the widower of Marjorie (O'Brien) Kelly who died in 1981. Edward served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oregon from 1935 to 1937 prior to being inducted in the United States Army in 1942. He served as a Sergeant, working in Ordnance, and was responsible for the distribution of weapons to the European Theater. Edward was employed for many years at the New Britain Post Office, retiring as Superintendent in 1974. Upon retirement, he worked as a Supernumary for the Farmington Police Force. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 511, the New Britain Lodge of Elks 957, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians . Edward Kelly is beloved by his surviving children, Michael and his wife Marcia Kelly of Hebron, Peter Kelly of Bristol, Stephen Kelly of Woodbury, Mary Ann Kelly of Middletown, Marguerite and her husband Fred Cogliati of Woodbury, Edward and his wife Frances Kelly of Clarendon, VT, Andrew and his wife Renee Kelly of New Britain, Julia and her husband Joseph Ganci of West Hartford, and Kathryn Kelly of New Britain; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Rita Burns of Southington, Regina Thomasen of Southington, Joan Kelly Coyle of New Britain, and a brother, John Kelly of Colchester; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by two sons, Matthew and Christopher Kelly; a brother, Joseph Kelly and two sisters, Margaret Pasco and Mary Beaudoin. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00 A.M starting at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Square in New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church 195 South Main Street in New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
