Joseph W. Gaydosh, 91, of New Britain passed away on Monday (September 26, 2011) surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Helen B. Gaydosh.
He was born in Peekskill, NY to Mary and Michael Gaydosh, raised in Norwalk, CT and then moved to New Britain to raise his family.
Joe is survived, and will be dearly missed, by his three children and their spouses; Barbara Gaydosh Anderson and husband Jack; Joseph M. Gaydosh and wife Shay; Michele Gaydosh Sycz and husband John; and his two cherished grandaughters; Sarah Sycz Jaworski and her husband Jon, and Erica Sycz.
He also leaves to mourn his loss, his sisters Ann and Helen, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, especially John and Lori Egan with whom he enjoyed many July 4th celebrations.
Joe spent his distinguished professional career helping establish small companies, such as Lake Manufacturing Co in New Britain, and later went to work for the Secretary of State Office from which he retired.
Joseph W. Gaydosh spent his life in service to his country and his God. He served in the several critical positions in the U.S. Army during World War II, including McArthur's HQ in the Philipines.
He was a communicant and an active member of the Holy Name Society of All Saints Slovak Catholic Church in New Britain, CT. When All Saints closed Joe became a member of St. Ann's Church. He was a board member of the Catholic Family Services and helped mentor many newlyweds along with his wife Helen through the CANA and PreCANA church organizations. Joe and Helen were very active with the CANA Conferences from 1947 to 1984, representing All Saints Church; they were chair couple for six terms and were appointed to the Archbishop's Lay Board for two years. While involved with CANA, both Helen and Joe attended many seminars and spoke at conferences throughout Connecticut, New York and New Jersey and made numerous appearances on television. He was a lifelong member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols, Group 2 Assembly 204.
Funeral services will be held Thursday September 29th 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Ann's Church North Street, New Britain. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Wednesday 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities 90 Franklin Square, New Britain.
