Lois Frances (Mercurio) Siderowf, 70, of Middletown, died unexpectedly, Saturday Sept. 3, 2011 at her daughter's home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Michael Pelligino and Frances (Brancato) Mercurio. She was raised in New Britain and graduated from Central Connecticut State University. She began her thirty year teaching career in Northern California and then taught in Los Angeles. She returned to Connecticut and retired from teaching in 1993. She was a member of the AARP, the Hartford County and State Retired Teachers Associations and the Day Club of Middletown where she wrote poetry. Lois is survived by her beloved daughter Cheryl Ann Siderowf of Middletown; three brothers Pellegrino Michael and his wife Joyce Mercurio of Meriden, Charles and and Francis Mercurio both of New Britain, a sister Ann and her husband Lawrence Zarotney of Berlin and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind many close friends including Liz Kahn of California. She was predeceased by her brother John Mercurio and her sister Rose Maccotta. Funeral services will be held Saturday 8:30 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church 195 So. Main St. New Britain. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Petit Foundation P.O. Box 310 Plainville, CT 06062-310.
