Obituary of Jean H. Flis
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean H. (Kaminski) Flis, 89, of Kensington, loving wife of the late Albert Flis, Jr. died peacefully on Wednesday (August 10, 2011) at the Jerome Home where she resided for the past 15 years. She would have been 90 on August 31st.
Born in New Britain to the late Boleslaw and Josephine Kaminski, Jean resided in Newington and New Britain before settling in Kensington for over 30 years. She was a life long communicant of St. Paul's church and generous member of the Ladies Guild.
Jean and Al enjoyed spending hours together working in their flower gardens making their home into a park like show case that was admired by all who passed by. They were also blessed with the company of their dogs Penny 1 and Penny 2 who gave them much happiness for many years.
Jean's love of children made Halloween her favorite holiday. She enjoyed seeing young Trick-or-Treators in their costumes and made a great fuss over giving out special treats! Aunt Jean's greatest joy in recent years was her grand-nieces and grand-nephew Hannah, Zoey, and Lily Mahlis; and Maria and David Cohen. She would stash cookies, popcorn, fruit, and candy in her room in anticipation of their visits and made sure everyone knew when the twins had come to visit!
Aunt Jean was loved and will be greatly missed by her adopted family Linda Martinelli; Carolyn Fliss; Susie and Larry DeSimone; Robert and Joan Fliss; Alicia Martinelli and Art Cohen; Caryn Martinelli and Mike Mahlis; Julie, Benjamin, and Katey DeSimone; Sarah Fliss; Mike Kaminski; and several other nieces and nephews.
Jean greatly appreciated the care, comfort, and friendship given to her by Deacon Oral Tallbot and his family and her friend Sister Ellen Shea.
Jean's family is very grateful to the wonderful staff at the Jerome Home for their kindness and excellent care given to her during her stay. Special thanks go to her friends Audrey, Laurabelle, and Kate; her nurses Sophie, Marie, Paul, Ella, and Madeline; and especially to her aids Maria and Marie who comforted her at the end.
Funeral services will be held Monday 10:30 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Church Kensington Burial will be immediately following at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. There are no calling hours.
