Obituary of Leo W. Sullivan

Leo Weston Sullivan, 89, retired principal of Gaffney School, died Sunday Nov. 4, 2012, at home. Born in Medford, MA, the son of the late John J. and Mary (Plunkett) Sullivan, he spent all his life in the New Britain area. He was raised by John Weston and Nancy Sullivan Weston after the death of his mother, when he was four days old. He attended New Britain High School and graduated from Trinity College. After graduating from Trinity he became a claims adjuster for the Hartford Insurance Group , and later became a supervisor of special sales at the Landers, Frary and Clark Co. He then worked over 20 years for the New Britain School System, teaching for six years at the Smith School in the 5th and 6th grade, became principal at the Jefferson School for one year and was principal for 19 years at Gaffney School. After an early retirement as a school administer, he did volunteer work at the Nuclear Medicine Department in the Newington VA Medical Center. He led a quiet life, but one he felt had been enriched by a good family and close friends. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Leo is survived by four cousins Hans Walsh of Camarillo, CA, Judge Timothy Walsh of San Diego, CA, Daniel Walsh of Niantic, CT, Atty. Adam Walsh of New York, NY, and several close friends including Barry Saluk of Mystic, CT, and Albert DeMeola, of Meriden. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Eileen Kimball, Rita Sullivan and John Weston. Funeral services will be held Friday December 7, 2012 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1755 Stanley St. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church.
