Obituary of William B Cabelus

William B. Cabelus, Sr., 76, of New Britain passed away early Wednesday morning at Ledgecrest Health Care Center. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan (Rosato) Cabelus. They would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in May. Born in Hartford, November 11, 1934, he was a son of the late Peter and Anna (Teske) Cabelus. William was a licensed plumber and worked for C.A. Hjerpe, Co. for 27 years before finally retiring from the Stanley Works in 1998. An avid golfer and former member of the Stanley Golf Club, he was elected Stanley Golf Club's Man of the Year in 1985. William loved the outdoors no matter what the season and especially loved to fish, hunt, golf and work in his yard. He was a Boston Red Sox fan and a N.Y. Giants fan and also enjoyed watching the UConn men and women's basketball teams. In his younger years he was a little league coach and umpire for the Fagan-Walicki and Police Athletic Leagues.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by his children, Nancy Cabelus of Belleair, Florida, William Cabelus, Jr. of New Britain and Joanna and David Repaci of New Britain, his grandchildren, Krystle and Michael Cabelus of Bristol and Victoria Picard and Julianna Repaci of New Britain, Victoria's father, Scott Picard, a brother, Robert Cabelus of Middlefield, and several nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Bernard Cabelus.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq., New Britain. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the William B. Cabelus, Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o State Police Credit Union, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450. A charitable donation will be made in William's memory at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Ledgecrest Health Care Center for the care, compassion and love that was shown to them over the last year.
