Marguerite (Riley) Ficek, widow of the late Walter Ficek, passed from this life on Good Friday, April 22, 2011 at Avery Heights, Hartford at the age of 95. She was born in New Britain on July 9, 1915 the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Delaney) Riley. Marguerite was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Mary Church of New Britain in her early life. After her marriage to Walter Ficek in 1955 she also joined and supported Sacred Heart Church. She was dutifully employed at the Fafnir Bearing Company of New Britain for thirty-six years until retirement in 1975. Marguerite resided in New Britain for seventy-eight years before moving to Avery Heights in Hartford in 1993 where she enjoyed her remaining years as a very popular and active member of that community. At Avery, she was especially admired by the staff and residents for her uncanny ability to recall names and for her friendliness and willingness to cheerfully participate in social activities. Having no children of her own , "Auntie Margaret", as she was affectionately referred to by members of her extended family, was a loving and generous lady who took special pride in remembering others, young and old, with thoughtful cards and gifts on the occasion of a birthday, holiday, or other special events. Marguerite is survived by a sister-in-law Faye Riley of Pennsylvania, a dear niece Cynthia Killavey and her husband James of Portsmouth RI., four nephews Joseph Murphy Jr. and his wife Marcia, of Wolcott, Francis Murphy and his wife Margaret of New Britain, Anthony Murphy and his wife Christine of East Berlin, Louis Bazzano of Newington and a host of great nieces and great nephews who will dearly miss her. In addition to her father, mother, and husband she was predeceased by a brother John Riley, two sisters Anna Murphy and Frances Hardin and two loving nieces Mary Ann Shea and Joan Bazzano. Funeral services will be held Saturday, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter Church 98 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:45 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Avery Heights 705 New Britain Avenue Hartford, CT 06106 or to Masonic Care Partners 111 Founders Plaza East Hartford, CT 06108.
