John Perakos, 92, of Wellington, FL, formerly of New Britain, passed away on Wednesday October 6, 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was born to Peter G. and Julia (Ladany) Perakos in New Britain, CT on January 7, 1918. He graduated from Roxbury Academy in Cheshire, CT and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. John served Our Country proudly during World War II, fighting in the South Pacific with the Army Air Corps. For his brave and courageous service he was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of St George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain, the Masonic Lodge in Southington, The Jolly Rogers 90th Bomb Group Association and the International Polo Club in Florida. He was a former Joint Master of the Litchfield County Hounds, in Litchfield. John's memory will be cherished by his loving wife Marilyn (Potter) Perakos; a brother Sperie Perakos and his wife Nikki of Orange, CT; three sisters-in-law, Urania Perakos of Florida and Edith and Veronica, both of CT, along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (Oct 12, 2010) at 10:30 A.M. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's name to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL, 33407 or to St George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main St. New Britain, CT 06052.
