Obituary of Margaret Greene

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Corr (Mickey) Greene died on Monday, July 23, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was the beloved wife of Raymond P. Greene. She died just three days after their 66th wedding anniversary. Mickey was born in New Britain to Robert Corr and Irene (Hill) Corr of Kensington Ct on December 14, 1927. She was educated in the Berlin school system and graduated from Berlin High in the class of 1945. She married Ray on July 20, 1946. Together they raised seven loving children. After many years as a stay-at-home mom, Mickey went to work for the City of New Britain. She worked first as a paraprofessional at Pulaski High School and then she transferred to City Hall, where she worked as a clerk in the Assessor's office and then as a clerk in the Corporation Counsel's office where she retired in 1991. Mickey was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a life member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She was a long time member of Irish Northern Aid. Mickey traveled to Ireland many times, including a trip to Northern Ireland at the height of the "troubles" in 1986. She was a tireless worker for the cause of "Freedom for all Ireland." She was a long time member of the Irish American Home Society. Mickey was also interested in the Irish language and belonged to Daltai na Gaeilge, an organization for the preservation of the Irish language. She attended Oideas Gael, a college in Donegal, Ireland in 1998, to study the Irish language and while not fluent she knew enough Irish to follow conversations in the language and was able to talk Irish with Ray at home. She was a devout Catholic and a founding member of St. Jerome parish in New Britain and was a member of its Adult Social Club. Mickey had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help others in their time of need. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her three brothers, Robert, Harold and Donald and her sister and best friend, Irene (Corr) Peterson, and her oldest son, Raymond P. Greene Junior. She is survived by her Husband, Ray, and her children Maire Greene and her husband Raymond Brayne, James Wallace Greene and his wife Linda Greene, Margaret Rose Greene and her husband Fred Louis, Kevin Greene and his wife Marthe Reichard, Jerome Greene and his fiancée, Heidi Crocker, Deirdre Greene Falla and her husband Gregory Falla and her honorary son Fernando Santos of New York. She is also survived by Fred Peterson and the Peterson family, Okey and Sheri Ndibe and family, 18 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and uncountable nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday (July 30, 2012) 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Jerome Church 1010 Slater Road New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery New Britain. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Greene family would like to thank the wonderful people of Hospice for the marvelous care that they gave Mickey. It is truly inspirational to see the love and kindness that these devoted nurses, caregivers and workers provide for the sick. We give them heartfelt thanks. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in Mickey's name to a charity of one's choice.
