James J. Kelly, 85, of Berlin, died Saturday night at home. Born in New Britain, the son of the late William and Laura (Gagnon) Kelly, he lived most of his life in New Britain, moving to Berlin four years ago. Jim served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Plunket and returned to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He was a partner in the Atlas Machine Tool Company for many years. He was a member of the Amber Club, the VFW, the American Legion, the Berlin Senior Citizens, and was involved with New Britain Cub Scouts. In his early years he was a soloist with St. Mary's Church Choir in New Britain. Later, as a member of St. Andrews Church in New Britain, he belonged to St Cecelia's Choir. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife Anne (Walincius) Kelly; his children James Kelly and his wife Karen, Robert Kelly, Brian Kelly and his wife Susan, Pat Cote' and her husband Chris, and Andy Kelly and his wife Cheryl; his grandchildren Aaron Kelly, Jonathan Kelly, Sarah Lavoie and her husband Mark, Justin Cote', A.J. Cote', Robert Cote' Samantha Kelly and Drew Kelly; his great grandchildren Briana Lavoie and Camden Lavoie, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Shawn Kelly. Funeral services will be held Monday 9:00 A.M. from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrews Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Church 396 Church St. New Britain, CT 06051 or to the Berlin Senior Center 33 Colonial Drive Kensington, CT 06037.
