Obituary of Maureen B Liegeot

Please share a memory of Maureen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maureen Burke Liegeot, longtime resident of Kensington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2024.   Born in Portland, Maine, Maureen was the oldest of nine children of Lt. Colonel Edward J. Burke and Marion Dugan Burke.

She graduated from Highland Falls High School of West Point, NY, and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY.  While in college, Maureen modeled for Kodak and Breck, and after graduating she taught school in Barcelona, Spain.

In 1958, Maureen married Rene Liegeot at West Point and they settled in Kensington where they raised their family and attended St. Paul Church. Using her sewing and knitting skills, she made holidays unforgettable by creating festive clothing for her children and grandchildren. Maureen and Rene were members of the Shuttle Meadow Country Club and spent summers at Lake Hayward where Maureen bought and renovated real estate.

While raising her children, Maureen served as president of the Junior League and of the New Britain YWCA.  Later, Maureen worked as a real estate broker and owned Community Real Estate and Community Travel. She was employed with H&R Block and served as Kensington Fire District Tax Collector for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling the world and loved sharing the stories of her adventures.  Maureen’s intelligence, style and energetic spirit were a positive inspiration to everyone who knew her.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Maureen is survived by her children, Lisa Liegeot (Nicholas) of Albuquerque, Jana Petano (Richard) of Avon, Maura Liegeot of Kensington, and Adam Liegeot (Katelyn) of Kensington, together with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and three brothers and their families.
