Elenore (Ela) Szczubelek, 69, of New Britain, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by her two children.

Born on June 30, 1956, in Poland, Elenore immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was about five years old. Her family first settled in New Jersey before eventually making their home in New Britain, Connecticut, where she spent most of her life.

In 2016, Elenore suffered a devastating stroke and later became a long-term resident of Monsignor Bojanowski Manor in New Britain. During that time, she was cared for by compassionate staff and remained surrounded by the love and support of her family.

Elenore was predeceased by her father, Marian Zdanio, and her mother, Leokadia Zdanio.

She is survived by her former husband and the father of her children, Ted Szczubelek; her daughter, Agatha Giliberto and her husband Jack; her son, Patrick Szczubelek; and her beloved grandson, Maverick, who brought her great joy.

In her younger years, when she was still healthy, Elenore enjoyed camping—especially at Hammonasset Beach State Park—as well as traveling. She enjoyed simple pleasures like going out to eat, dressing up, and sharing time with the people she loved.  She was a member of the Ladies Guild at Sacred Heart Church in New Britain.

Elenore will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Britain, in the family plot alongside her parents.

She will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the love she had for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Elenore will be held on Tuesday (March 17) with a visitation from 8:30 – 9:30 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St. New Britain. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
