Everett John Campanelli Obituary

Everett John Campanelli, 91, of New Britain and Old Lyme, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025 at Saint Mary’s Home in West Hartford.

The son of the late Livio and Rose (Rondini) Campanelli, he was born April 21,1934, the youngest of six brothers, all of whom have predeceased him. He served his country in the Army in Panama. A native and lifelong resident of New Britain, he was the personification of its symbol, the beehive, because in the fulfillment of all of his many life roles - husband, son-in-law, father, Poppy, uncle, veteran, tinkerer extraordinaire - Everett applied an unmatched and industrious work ethic.  Until his retirement, Everett labored as a crane operator, remaining a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 478 and recently receiving his 65 years of service pin.

He was married to and is survived by his devoted and loving wife Helen (Genovese) of 64 years to whom he was unwaveringly dedicated. He was the loving father of Rosemary (John Goodwin) and Edward (Charles Kim) and grandfather to Cassidy, Erin, and Jack Goodwin and Royce DiPalo. His extended family included sister-in-law Terri Genovese and her children Nancy Russo, Lisa Genovese, Andrea (Randy Foligno), Joseph Genovese, and Peter Genovese, as well as the many children and grandchildren of his late brothers Louis, Fritz, Joseph, Leonard, and Arthur.

Everett’s greatest joys were his family and finding ways to fix things. He loved helping others find solutions to their problems and being the overseer of processes that were passed down through the generations. Everett enjoyed summer times at White Sand Beach where the distinction between neighbor and friend does not exist. He was the number one supporter of his grandchildren’s athletic and musical events and an enthusiastic fan of the UConn Huskies.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday November 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Church, 1 McCurdy Rd, Old Lyme, CT 06371, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Walker Therapeutic & Educational Programs of Needham, MA, here, or the New York Legal Assistance Group Veterans Practice here. Everett had connections to these organizations through his granddaughter, Erin, and son, Ed, respectively
