F. Richard Bouchard Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of F. Richard Bouchard on September 2, 2025, at the age of 85, following a long illness. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on May 30, 1940, in Caribou, Maine, and moved with his family to New Britain, Connecticut, at the age of 12. He attended Lasallette Seminary for high school, earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army for five years, including a tour in Vietnam. Following his military service, he settled in Kensington, Connecticut, and later earned his law degree from UConn Law School.

A man of many passions, Richard was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Shuttle Meadow Country Club. In addition to his love of the game, he served as a rules official for the Connecticut State Golf Association (CSGA), contributing his knowledge and dedication to the sport. He was also a certified pilot and flight instructor. Deeply devoted to his faith, he was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Kensington, where he served as a lector, eucharistic minister, and leader in the Confirmation Program.

Richard retired from Northeast Utilities in 1997 and relocated to Sebring, Florida, where he enjoyed many years of retirement. For the past year and a half, he was lovingly cared for by the Memory Care Unit staff at KindCare Assisted Living in Bristol.

He is survived by his children: Mary Susanne Sorrentino and her husband John of Poughkeepsie, NY; Kevin Bouchard and his wife Katie of Kensington, CT; Kathy Sanger and her partner Doug Bulmer of Seabrook, NH; and Michelle Kumm and her husband Alan of Berlin, CT. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Angeline Bouchard, and his sister, Joyce Glynn.

Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Paul’s Church, 485 Alling Street, Kensington on Thursday, September 11 at 10:00am. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown.
