Obituary of Susan J. Tosatti
Susan J. Tosatti, 67, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Susan was born on Feb. 26, 1958, in New Britain, Connecticut and was the daughter of the late Margaret (Pflugbeil) Tosatti and Raymond Tosatti.
Susan graduated from New Britain High School in 1976. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education and later earned a M.S. degree in Education. Susan began her teaching career at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut and in 1987 began teaching elementary students in the Cheshire school system where she worked for the remainder of her career until she retired in 2016. She excelled at teaching students to read and hundreds of students benefitted from her dedication. Susan’s rescue dog, Simba, was her dear companion, always at her side and entertaining her with his antics.
Her spirit lives on in those who survive her: her brothers, Dr. Michael Tosatti and his wife Penelope of Westbrook, CT, Thomas Tosatti and his wife Leslie of South Glastonbury, CT, and James Tosatti of Middletown, CT. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews: Elise Tosatti, Alaina Vaughn and her husband John, Jonathan Tosatti and his wife Cate, Joseph Tosatti and David Tosatti. She was also the loving great aunt to Grady and Samuel Vaughn. Susan is also survived by her aunts, an uncle and several cousins.
Susan’s family would like to thank the staff of Smilow Cancer Center at Yale University, especially her multiple myeloma team, Dr. Noffar Bar and Dr. Natalia Nepharidze, as well as the doctors and staff at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, Connecticut. The family also wants to thank the hospice team from Middlesex Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.
In addition, the family also thanks the Opal Stork Home Care Agency for their assistance, with special gratitude to Yvonne, her primary care giver. And we can never thank enough Susan’s group of lifelong friends who gave her so much support, care and joy during her lifetime.
