Obituary of John L. Dornfried

John L. Dornfried, 91, of East Berlin, died Tuesday at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born and raised in New Britain, he lived a short while in Newington and many years in East Berlin. A World War II Army Air Corps Veteran, he also worked many years for the State of Connecticut as a Construction Inspector. He was a member of the Donau Society, was an avid fisherman, woodworker and enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the VFW in Berlin. Mr. Dornfried is survived by his wife Norma (Clark) Dornfried, his children Kent and his wife Sue Dornfried of Farmington, Steve and his wife Pam Coste of Berlin, Mark Dornfried of Florida, Susan Coste and her husband Joe Lombardo of Newington, Jeanne and Michael Gagnon of Andover, Gail and her husband Daniel Waida of Thomaston and Marilyn Haney of Marlborough; his grandchildren Marie and Shawna Coste, Bryan and Amy Dornfried, Bob Coste, Cassie, Danielle and Joe Waida, Zack and Jessica Haney, and Sam Gagnon; 4 great grandchildren Jason, Alexis, Madison and Taryn; one sister Margaret LaChance, several nieces and nephews and his caretaker and good friend David Haney. John was predeceased by his wife Joan (Smedley) Dornfried and his son Donald. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:15 Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M . at St. Peter Church 98 Franklin Sq. New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connecticut Humane Society, 70 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
