Donald C. Smith Obituary

Donald C. Smith, PhD. of Wallingford, died Thursday (Sept.14, 2023) at Mid-State Hospital in Meriden, after experiencing a heart attack.  Born in Derby, CT, the son of the late Bernard T. Smith Sr. and Rita (Conway) Smith, he was the youngest of eight children. Spending his career in education, he was a Professor of Communication at the University of New Haven. He was an accomplished author, having written The Bipolar Professor.


Donald is survived by his sisters, Carole Grimes of Chattanooga, TN, and Rita Paulsen of Derby, CT, and his brothers, Rev. Ronald T. Smith of Laconia, NH and Anthony Smith of Margate, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard Smith, Jr., Thomas Smith and Lawrence Smith.


Friends and family are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday (Sept. 26, 2023) at 11:00 AM at Holy Spirit Church 183 Church St. Newington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10:15 AM until the time of the Mass in the church.
