Obituary of Antonio M. Faria
Antonio “Tony” Mecedo S. Faria, Jr., born on August 29, 1931 living most of his life in New Britain, CT, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on May 23, 2019 in Polk City, Florida, at the grand old age of 87. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Maria (Barbosa) Faria, along with his siters, Alexandrina, Hilda and Isabel and his former wife Denise (Gendron) Faria, the mother of his 5 children.
Tony leaves behind, his loving wife Betty (Poe) Faria of Polk City, FL, sisters Franceline, Dilinda and Leonor, his “Girls” Twins, Kathleen Faria and Christine Reyolds, Jacqueline Watrous, Maria Louise Faria and Antonia Faria, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. As an Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was separated with an Honorable Discharge. He worked for 30 years at Fafnir Bearing in Newington, CT where he was active in the UAW. Tony and Denise worked as fund raisers for MIA’s Bingo and both Dinner Dance events for Mary Immaculate Academy and St. John the Evangelist Church where he was a lifetime member. Out of his passion for carpentry and working with his hands, he satisfied his entrepreneurial dreams and created T and D Woodworking. In doing so, he inspired others to follow theirs. In his retirement he was known as the Airplane Man. The biplanes he created from recycled cans have made their way into homes around the world. Tony loved to “Play Ball” and when he could no longer play, he coached. He loved a good game of cards and Dominos and “You could always count on Uncle Tony for a good Joke or Story”. He will be missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday (June 1, 2019) 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Katharine Drexel Parish (St. Jerome Church) 1010 Slater Road. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery New Britain. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral Home.
