Obituary of Marita O'Neill

Marita (Murphy) O’Neill, 90, formerly of New Britain, died early Friday Morning (Sept. 28, 2018). Born in Norwalk, CT, the daughter of the late Ambrose and Grace (Hefferan) Murphy, she lived many years in New Britain, moving to Cromwell in 2016. She was the wife of John “Jack” O’Neill. During her career, she was a teacher and had worked at the American Savings Bank. A longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, she also belonged to the ladies Guild of the church, was a volunteer at St. Francis Middle School library and a Literacy Volunteer.

In addition to her husband, Jack, Mrs. O’Neill is also survived by three daughters, Mary Kate and her husband, Steve Sigmon of West Hartford, Peggy and her husband, Tom Cugno of Berlin, Patty and her husband Larry Tomascak of Berlin,  a son, Joe and his wife, Lisa O’Neill, of Haverhill, MA; eight grandchildren, John, Michael and Kara Sigmon; Stacey and her husband Pete Pavasaris, Craig and Tessa Cugno; Jack and Ben Tomascak; two great grandchildren Jacob and Emma Pavasaris; two sisters, Margaret Ann Reardon of Newington and Kathryn Tucciarone of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2018) 8:30 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 1755 Stanley St. New Britain. Burial will be at 12:00 PM in the State Veteran’s Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Visitation will be Monday (Oct. 1) from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
