Obituary of Genevieve T. Stachelek
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Genevieve Theresa (Zaniewski) Stachelek, 86, of Kensington. The dearly loved wife of the late Chester Stanley Stachelek for 59 ½ years, Genevieve passed peacefully from this life to Our Lord after a brief illness on May 12, 2018 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain, with her loving family surrounding her in her final days.
Genevieve was born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Stasia (Koncewicz) Zaniewski. A former parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and Holy Cross Church, she graduated from Sacred Heart School and New Britain High School. She worked in bookkeeping/accounting at area businesses, banks, and the CT State Police Payroll Dept.
“Jennie” lived in New Britain-Kensington her entire life and was a parishioner of St. Paul Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Deeply devoted to her love Chet and her family, she enjoyed polka dancing, gardening, creating beautiful floral arrangements, and giving gifts creatively decorated. Later in life she loved coloring, watching Villanova basketball and happy movies, and visiting with friends and family at her favorite Bella’s Ristorante.
Genevieve will be deeply missed by her daughter Deborah (Stachelek) Sanders and husband Douglas; her son Stephen Stachelek and wife Donna; her treasured grandchildren and great grandchild: Jonathan Stachelek, his wife Elyse and their son Brayden Paul; James Stachelek; Lauren (Sanders) Rivera-Myers and her husband Timothy; and Melissa Sanders and her fiancé Ryan Amspacher. She also leaves her sister Helen Grady, many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by family Stanislaw and Rozalja (Sokolowski) Stachelek, William Grady, Helen and Sylvio Beaulieu, and Stanley and Marjorie Koncewicz.
The family thanks the Hospital of Central Connecticut Critical Care and Hospice Staff for their kind medical treatment of Genevieve in her final days.
Funeral services will be held Thursday (May 17, 2018) at 9:00 A.M. at the Farrell Funeral Home, New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Wednesday (May 16) from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Church for a commemoration in the parish gardens. Honoring Jennie with her favorite warm colors, all are invited to wear something in yellow, pink, or orange to the wake and funeral
