Obituary of Lawrence E. Michaels
Lawrence E. Michaels, 76, of Kensington, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at home. He was the husband of 52 years of Anna Marie (Thompson) Michaels. Larry was born in New Britain, CT on July 30, 1940 to the late Edward and Catherine (Sarisky) Michaels. He was a member of the first graduating class of St. Thomas Aquinas High School and went on to graduate from his beloved University of Maryland. Larry, known as “Mr. Mikes”, taught P.E. and coached baseball and cross country for 30 years in the Berlin Public Schools. After retiring, he and his wife owned Main Street Package Store in Berlin for 12 years. Summer nights for the past 32 years found Larry in the press box running the score board for the New Britain Red Sox, the Rockcats and the New Britain Bees. He was a life member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks, #957.
He is survived by his wife Anna Marie (Thompson) Michaels, his daughter Jean Dmytruk and her husband Joseph of Cumberland, ME, and son Lew Michaels and his wife Kristen of Wethersfield. He also leaves behind many grandkids, his number one granddaughter Cady Michaels, Brandi Dmytruk, Jazylin Dmytruk, Joseph Dmytruk, Ryan Dmytruk, Andrew Michaels, Alexander Michaels and great-grandson Franki Merced. Larry is also survived by his brother Thomas Michaels and his wife Kathleen of Henrico, VA, nephew Daniel Michaels and niece Dianne Tourtelot, both of Henrico, VA.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2017 at 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Church, 98 Franklin Sq. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
