Obituary of Elizabeth S. Lasch

Elizabeth Simpson Lasch, formerly of New Britain, CT, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Ocala, Fl, where she has resided since 1986.
Elizabeth was born in Richmond VA, youngest daughter of Harwood and Nettie Simpson, and was raised in Falmouth, VA. She was a graduate of Mt. Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore MD. After graduation, she served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Nurses Corps during World War II. She cared for the soldiers returning from the front as an OR nurse in England, using the experimental drug at that time, penicillin. She met her husband, Dr. Henry R. Lasch Jr, in England during that time and they were married July 2, 1945. They sailed back home on the Queen Elizabeth and on every anniversary, would raise a toast to each other with champagne glasses from the ship, until Henry passed away in 1990.
She was on the Board of the Auxiliary of New Britain General Hospital (now the Hospital of Central Connecticut) for 20 years and chaired many of their functions, including the annual Chrysanthemum Ball. She was also a corporator of New Britain General Hospital.
She was a member of the D.A.R., the Memorial Hospital and Salvation Army auxiliaries along with the National Organization of WWII Nurses.
She was a long time member of Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Kensington, CT and a member of Silver Spring Shores Country Club in Ocala. She was an avid golfer, playing well into her 80’s.
Survivors include 2 sons, Henry R. Lasch III (wife June) of Vancouver, WA and Dr. Alan H. Lasch (wife Moira) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Two daughters, Susan E. Lasch of Amesbury, MA and Deborah A. Upright of Ocala, L. She was the grandmother of Henry R. Lasch IV, Mathew Lasch, Michael Upright and was pre-deceased by 2 grandchildren, Paul Scotella and Timothy Upright. She leaves 4 great grandchildren, Tori, Ellie and Tyler Lasch and Adam Upright.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Square New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Partners in Development, 174 High Street, Suite 106, Ipswich MA 01938.
