Obituary of Ida M. Ragazzi

Ida (Mangan) Ragazzi, 90, of Berlin, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2016. She was born February 23, 1926 in Lowell, Mass., to the late John J, and Eva (Ally) Mangan. Raised and educated in New Britain, Ct., she resided the last sixty years in Berlin, Ct. An activist all her life, she enjoyed working for causes. Ida enjoyed the many friends she made in these pursuits. She retired after twenty-eight years of service with the business office of the Connecticut State Police Department.
An elected volunteer for the Town of Berlin, she served 12 years on the Berlin Board of Finance and 10 years as an elected member of the Town Council, one term as Mayor, two terms as Deputy Mayor. She had many interests. She was the past president of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists’, a Charter member of the Berlin VFW Women’s Auxiliary, a corporator of The Hospital of Central Connecticut, and a longtime member of the Berlin Democratic Town Committee to name a few. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years the late C.S.P. Lieutenant Colonel Orlando “Jack” Ragazzi and her son, John P. Ragazzi, also, siblings, John J. Mangan Jr., Dorothy Woznis Audibert, and Lorraine Johnson.
She is survived by her beloved daughter and son in law, with whom she made her home with these last years, Christine and Anthony Murphy. Three grandsons and their families, Brian and Melissa Ragazzi, of Jackson, Mississippi, Sean and Diana Murphy, of East Hampton, CT, Ben and Kristen Murphy, of Berlin, CT., and seven great grandchildren, Ida Camille, Isabella, Brennan, Thomas, Amanda, Leah, and Chloe. She leaves many nieces and nephews and is survived by a sister in law, Jean Madore, and a brother in law, Henry J. Johnson. Over her lifetime, her family was the greatest joy of her life. Some of her favorite family past times include spending the holidays together, taking vacations, and enjoying the beauty and serenity found at the family lake house in Maine.
Funeral services will be held Monday (Dec. 12, 2016) 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church 48 Cottage St. East Berlin. Burial will follow in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to VFW 152 Massirio Drive Berlin, CT 06037.
