Obituary of Sophie V. Colamussi

Sophie (Valenti) Colamussi, 86, completed her journey on earth on Tuesday (Nov. 15, 2016) and left us with memories we are proud to own, as she continues her eternal journey to be reunited with her husband, Dominic “Dick’ Colamussi whom she was married to for 61 years and died on March 10, 2013 and as she enters her garden of rest. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Josephine (Bazzano) Valenti. Sophie was born and raised in the town of Berlin and was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1948. During her career, she worked as a secretary at several small businesses in New Britain and Berlin and as a secretary and model at Landers, Frary and Clark. She was a communicant and lifelong member of St. Paul’s Church, member of St. Paul’s Ladies Guild, the Red Hat Society, the Forever Young Club of Sacred Heart Church, the New Britain Council of Catholic Women and the St. Sophia Society. She worked alongside her husband at the Lions Club Berlin Fair Grounds when he was superintendent for flowers.
She leaves her loving and devoted daughter, LouAnn Mercadante and her husband, Vincent of Plainville; her sister Rose Marie Peck of Las Vegas, her sister in law Marilyn Puopolo of Hamden and her devoted friend Rose Wollman and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother S. Samuel Valenti and sister in law Millie Caccavale Valenti.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to her caregivers of Liberty Healthcare, especially for all their care and comfort at the Dialysis Unit at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain.
Funeral services will be held Friday (Nov. 18, 2016) 9:00 AM from the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
